I've never been into a sex shop. Walked past a few and wondered what it would be like to go in and start browsing, but the prude in me always wins and I never go in. I'm curious to see how the toys are displayed and is the person behind the counter a plain Jane type or someone who might look like a porn star. I want to know why there is so much stigma attached to those that frequent these shops or discomfort for someone like me to who can't bring herself to go into one because i'm chicken. People have sex all the time, right? So what's the problem?

I've said pretty much the same thing in my first post - I like to think of myself as broad-minded but I have a preconception of what sex shops are like as well as the people that either frequent or work in them, so it both puzzles and fascinates me that in this day and age, it's still the 'S' word that can stir up so many and so varied reactions in people, and like you, I'm wondering 'what's the problem?'
ReplyDeleteYou are right. I think that there are people who do and those of us that don't, not because we are being judgemental but because for whatever reason we just don't feel confortable in certain situations. Can't answer the why but I question the why not? Meaning why is it so hard to throw caution to the wind and say why not do something or go somewhere we never thought we could?
ReplyDeleteI think the problem with sex shops is that people think they are being watched so are embarrased to go in. you seem to show that you would be comfortable in a sex shop because you like me dont see a reason why we shouldn't go in. typically people can only define bad behaviour by comparing them to the ordinary and if they think people don't go in sex stores neither will they because they don't want to be odd, but when they realise that the shops are obviously getting customers otherwise it would be closed down (especially in the credit crunch) there may be a sex revolution and im sure the majority will then visit these sex shops. if your lucky you could be the person behind the counter.
